Thank you Nicole

A dear friend Nicole came over and shared with me that she has been wanting to mention and suggest that I create a blog.  Frankly, it never occured to me and wasn't sure I would have the time.  As I thought more about it, I love the idea of sharing with others in this format, when I simply can't pick-up the phone or be courageous enough to discuss the ongoings of our day.  There are so many people who have reached out to out, supported us and I can't think of a better way to share our updates than this.  Thank you Nicole !

Today is June 18, 2011 - the day before Father's Day.  Lucas is at Knott's Berry Farm with his teachers and friends, followed by a sleepover birthday party for his best friend Jack.  Logan, has 6 friends over for a swim party, then we are playing a round of golf with other friends.  At the end of the day, I hope to have filled their tanks with joy and fond memories for them.

My husband passed away 3 months and 2 days ago.  This coming Father's Day has been looming over me like a dark cloud just about to pour.  I have been having some anxiety about what to do on this day and just the sadness of it all. Sometimes I wish I could sleep the day off and wake-up to Monday.  But that is not the case.  We will be courageous and get through this day.

Last night, the boys and I were watching the movie Narnja.  There was a statement made in the film about "focusing our lives on what was given and not what was taken".  It was a strong reminder of how we should celebrate tomorrow to honor my husband- the most incredible father I have ever known.  Lucas and Logan have so many great memories etched in their hearts that the only way to approach tomorrow is with gratitude.

  2. Amazing, Elisa. You have been in my thoughts so often, especially approaching tomorrow. You ARE courageous by sharing your feelings in this blog. Bruce was given to this world, and you. And he gave immensely to this world, including his prized gifts, Lucas and Logan. And he gave them the example of what being a generous and loving man and father should be. I am grateful Nicole suggested you express yourself. You are an inspiration and the definition of resilient.

    Big hugs...

  4. What a fabulous idea! Thank you for sharing your life with us this way. I think of you ALL the time, dear girl especially since your Christmas card from last winter is on my refrigerator... What a GORGEOUS family! Sadly, special days, holidays and birthdays will never be the same... The first year though, is usually the hardest. Will send you extra love tomorrow!
